Patrolman Shine was struck and killed by a snow removal truck on 9th Avenue near 46th Street. The truck had just dumped a load of snow and Patrolman Shine waved the truck on. As the truck started moving it knocked Patrolman Shine to the ground and threw him under the rear wheels of the truck. Patrolman Shine was killed instantly.

Patrolman Shine was survived by his wife of two months. He was assigned to Traffic Precinct B.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 87th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
