Officer Ann Guinta was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a report of a fight aboard a transit bus.

As she came over a slight hill on North Decatur Road near Gifford Drive, she swerved to the right to avoid striking a vehicle which was in the left-hand lane. Her patrol car clipped the back of the truck. Her patrol car went out of control and turned onto its side in a wooded ravine. The top of the patrol car struck a tree, pinning her inside.

Officer Guinta had been employed with the DeKalb County Police Department for five years, and is survived by her 6-year-old son.

Hello old friend! You are still very much alive in my heart and mind. I hope your family is doing well and still know you were very much loved by all your family at DKPD. I still remember that day so very clearly. We had planned to go see Tim McGraw but you could not get off. Two nights before you died you made me promise you I would provide your son and Mom with items and assurance should anything ever happen to you. I of course said I would and I stood by that promise. They saw the heart break of the mighty DKPD blue line and in the end they comforted us. They realized the pain they were feeling was as hard as our own. Nico wanted the tape from my badge after your service and as he pulled it off that 6 year old little man said,"Mommy is fine now.". And at that very moment I knew you were. Please continue to watch over our blue line. Please help people to know 99% of us would and have died so others might live. Color is not an issue to that 99% only the knowledge that duty calls. Somehow we have got to find a bridge back to ALL LIVES MATTERING!!!! Love and miss you still- you are still one of my light houses!
