Deputy Donaldson was shot and killed while attempting to apprehended a Mexican bootlegger near Sonoratown, Arizona. During the arrest Deputy Donaldson began to search the man for weapons when the suspect suddenly produced a revolver and shot him in the hand and stomach. Deputy Donaldson succumbed to the wound early the next morning. The suspect was apprehended the following day near Ray, Arizona.

Deputy Donaldson was survived by his family.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 94thanniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
