Patrolman Meagher was killed in an automobile accident while driving a new city fire truck to a report of a fire. The fire truck struck another vehicle while going through an intersection. During the time period city police officers were often used to drive the fire trucks to the scenes of fires.
Patrolman Meagher had been with the agency for two years and was survived by his wife and child.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 56th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
