Officer Donald Joseph Marquez was shot and killed as he was serving court papers at the Logan Square apartments.
A 77-year-old resident opened fire with two .22 caliber handguns. Officer Marquez was struck several times; He succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.
The assailant was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with back up officers.
Officer Donald Marquez was a 20 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department; his wife, two sons, three daughters, grandson, parents, two sisters, and three brothers survived him.
