Deputy Daly, Constable Charles Baker, Sheriff James Barton, and Constable William Little were shot and killed while attempting to arrest members of the notorious Flores-Daniels Gang. The gang ambushed the officers, killing them. Deputy Daly had just been deputized by Sheriff Barton in order to help apprehend the criminals.

52 members of the gang were arrested and 18 were hung for the murders.

On today, the 160th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you to you and your 3 fellow Officers who were also killed that day for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Los Angeles County.
