Captain Campagne was shot and killed while chasing a suspect at Ft. Meade, Maryland. Captain Campagne responded to the scene of a suspicious person attempting to break into automobiles. Upon arrival, the suspect began to flee when he turned and shot Captain Campagne. At the time the suspect was wanted for murder.

Captain Campagne had been with the agency for four years and is survived by his wife and child.
