Deputy Sheriff Sung Bang and Deputy Ralph Zylka were killed in a helicopter accident in Dodge County, Wisconsin while assisting in the search for a suspect.

Their helicopter experienced mechanical problems and crashed while returning to Milwaukee County. The deputies performed an instrumental role in apprehending the suspect, who was wanted for murdering an off-duty police officer. The helicopter was a 20-year-old military surplus aircraft.

Deputy Bang, the pilot, had been employed with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department for three years.

Rarely a day goes by that I don't think of you my brother. The weightlifting workouts where we talked about family, cars, fishing and competing in bench press competitions. Our workouts always always tended to run much longer because of all the talking. You were truly my younger brother from another mother. You were larger than life and about the most happy go lucky person I've ever met. I always thought you'd live to be 100 because of the healthy lifestyle, diet, lack of stress, always smiling etc plus Asian genes.

I renewed my fishing license today and it made me think of that fateful night in 2000. We were suppose to go fishing on our boat first thing in the morning but I had a terrible time falling asleep because I new something bad happened. I woke up to the worst voicemail that morning that confirmed my fears. I still struggle with trying to understand why you and Ralph had to be called to Heaven that day. You had so much of your life to live with your wedding mere weeks away.

Losing my Dad last year gave me flashbacks to that terrible time. My Dad thought so highly of you, as did everyone who was fortunate enough to know you. Well maybe you guys can get some weightlifting sessions in until my brother and I join you guys like in the old days. Sometimes the world can be so incredibly unfair that two heroic, selfless men like yourselves are taken so soon. May God bless you and your family and Raplh and his family. Love you brother
