Deputy Mills was killed in a single-car accident while he was responding to a 911 hang-up call. During the response his cruiser veered off the road and flipped over several times.

Deputy Mills had been a military police officer for approximately five years and had served with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department for approximately one year. He is survived by his wife and son.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the tenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
