Officer Freddie Dukes was shot and killed when he intervened in a robbery while off duty. Officer Dukes confronted one of the suspects in the establishment but was shot by a second suspect with a shotgun.

The suspect committed suicide as members of the department's SWAT team attempted to arrest him at a home where he had taken two hostages.

Officer Dukes was assigned to the Highway Patrol Division.

Still missing you, old buddy. It was Police Week and the usual stuff was done. Its a great tribute...well deserved too but it doesn't fill the hole nor stop the hurt. It is said that time heals all wounds but for some things , like lossing you? Nah!...you just learn to handle it better.
Most of the crew are retired now. We be "old skool police" for real. We get together and laugh, drink and tell our tales of the street.Most of which get better with age. LoL Most importantly tho' we remember our time. A time when we did something special with people who were better still. People like you.
