Corrections Officer Ralph Garcia was stabbed to death after being ambushed by nine inmates in a correctional facility. Officer Garcia was locking a housing door when the inmates starting beating and stabbing him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was killed in a car fire in Bernalillo County.

Corrections Officer Garcia is survived by his wife and three children.

I met you the first day you started at the Santa Rosa prison. I was new myself, had only been there for a few weeks but at that time I had been in Corrections a few years in Grants. I remember getting your badge for you. You were so nice and kind. I left Santa Rosa, my gut told me something just wasn't quite right. I returned to The Womens Facility in Grants & just 6 months later you were gone:( I am truely sorry for what you had to go through. All these years later I have never forgotten you.....RIP Ralph
