Sergeant Dennis Marcotte suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in the running portion of the department's annual physical fitness test at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan.

During the run his supervisor was called back to the station and left Sergeant Marcotte to continue alone. A short time later a military officer in base housing called 911 to report a man lying on the sidewalk in front of his house. Attempts to revive Sergeant Marcotte using CPR failed and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Sergeant Marcotte had served with the Department of Defense Police for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.

Dennis,

Your daughter is one special young lady. I thought you would like to know that she grew up to become my hero. I remember the first time I met your wife and children. I am sure that you are watching over her and her family as well. She is simply amazing. Thank you for giving us the gift of her and your won. I am sorry I never go to know him...but your daughter...well, she is awesome.

I know you are resting in peace, and have been for many years. Just know how much your family truly loved you and your co-workers respected you. Thank you for always being kind to me.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

God Bless.
