Sergeant Dennis Marcotte suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in the running portion of the department's annual physical fitness test at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan.

During the run his supervisor was called back to the station and left Sergeant Marcotte to continue alone. A short time later a military officer in base housing called 911 to report a man lying on the sidewalk in front of his house. Attempts to revive Sergeant Marcotte using CPR failed and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Sergeant Marcotte had served with the Department of Defense Police for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.

Dennis it has been nearly 18 years since we last spoke. I continue to carry you in my heart and thoughts with fond memories of our short time working together in Counter-Terrorism and our friendship which I found invaluable. I nearly came to see you back in June 2011 after suffering 3 consecutive cardiac arrests back to back on a single eve. Fortunately, I was already hospitalized and was saved rather quickly following them so I am told. I do not recall anything other than being at peace during the time I was medically deceased other than the moments leading up to the first cardiac arrest and a brief couple of minutes some point that night when I was given my last rights and communion by the VA's Catholic Chaplin. Over the next year I will undergo a bi-pulmonary and cardio transplant which will take between 8-12 months between surgery, recovery and follow up visits. I will have you in my thoughts during that time as I very often do and ask that you watch over me as a friend please.
I hope your family has all been well, I am certain they have with you watching over them as well. My sincerest apologies for not making an effort to reach out to them as I should have all these years. I never had the good fortune of meeting them in person. Mrs. Marcotte, I do so apologize to you and your son and daughter for this. Should you ever want or need any assistance with anything financial or otherwise please do not hesitate to contact me. You can find my email address by googling my name in case they do not print it which is [email protected] Whatever I can do to help you I will if I can.
Well Dennis thank you for listening to me as you always have. What a great friend you have been to me! All of my best to your family you are all in my prayers.
