Chris S. Logsdon

Patrolman Chris Logsdon was killed in a vehicle accident after being run off the road by another driver. He was responding to a call of the drunk driver on Interstate 25 north of Wheatland. When he arrived on the scene the suspect vehicle was driving towards him on the wrong side of the road.

Patrolman Logsdon swerved to avoid an accident, causing his Camaro police cruiser to flip several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect turned out to not being a drunk driver, but rather a 92-year-old man who was confused.

Patrolman Logsdon is survived by his wife and four children.

I witnessed the accident first hand . I was the first car behind the officer when he crashed. I had pulled over to the shoulder to let him pass and then got back in the right lane. The patrol car was ahead of me possibly 75 yards or less when it made a violent right turn and left the road in a cloud of dust. Just as that cloud came across the road a car came through it north bound on the south bound lane. I feel the officer left the road for two reasons. The first was to miss that car. The other reason was to miss two cars that were just over the crest of the hill the officer had just reached in the right lane. He chose to go the ditch and not hit one or both cars. I did stop for the accident and talked to highway patrol later.
