Sergeant Daniel Edenfield suffered a fatal heart attack following a foot chase of an intoxicated suspect who was beating a female. Sergeant Edenfield was working a security detail at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum where the incident happened. After chasing the suspect he was able to apprehend him and struggled briefly with him before handcuffing the man. As he was waiting for a patrol car to transport the suspect he collapsed. He was then transported to a local hospital where he died while undergoing surgery.

Sergeant Edenfield had served with the Allen County Sheriff's Department for 26 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the eleventh anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
