Officer Michael Delgado was killed when the vehicle he was riding in was broadsided by a drunk driver who had run a red light.
He had checked in for duty only minutes before the incident and was being driven to another officer's residence to pick up a patrol car for his shift. He was killed instantly upon impact. The vehicle that struck Officer Delgado's vehicle was traveling at 80 mph at the time of impact.
Officer Delgado had graduated from the academy in November 1997. He was survived by his expectant wife.
