Trooper Raymond G. Armstead died after being involved in an accident on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

Trooper Armstead's attention was diverted to the side of the road by people who were flagging him over for another accident. Paying attention to these people, he did not see traffic stopped in front of him and struck another vehicle. Trooper Armstead was trapped inside of his cruiser before being freed by the Prince George's County Fire Department. He died later at a local hospital.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

I know you're up there with your sister watching over all of the Armstead family, especially your mom and dad. I wish I had the chance to spend more time with you because i'm sure that we could've been pals. Nana and Papa are like my grandparents and I love them with all my heart, that is something I know we share besides our Armstead blood. I will try to live up to the name and make you and the whole family proud just like you did.
