Trooper Anthony Millison was killed when he fell from an icy expressway overpass. Early morning snow, rain and sleet had made the pavement treacherous, and numerous accidents had been reported that morning. Trooper Millison had been directing traffic around the scene of an accident on I-57 at Thornton-Blue Island Road in Dixmore.

A vehicle spun out of control, and Trooper Millison attempted to avoid being hit, fell over the guard rail. He landed 75 feet below. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island where he was pronounced dead.

Trooper Millison was a US Air Force veteran. He had served with the Illinois State Police for 10 years and had previously served with the Illinois Department of Corrections for 8 years. Trooper Millison was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.

He is survived by his wife and son.
