Deputy Stockburger died on September 23, 1997, as a result of injuries sustained when he was shot on December 11, 1990.
Deputy Stockburger was assisting in stopping a man suspected of stealing items from several vehicles. The suspect was in a stolen vehicle at the time of the stop and had several guns.
The suspect was convicted of Deputy Stockburger's murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Deputy Stockburger had served with the Pecos County Sheriff's Department for ten years. He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
