Samuel Anthony Redhouse

Officer Samuel Redhouse was shot and killed in Iyanbito, New Mexico, during a shootout with a man who was reported as being despondent.

When Officer Redhouse and four McKinley County Sheriff's Department deputies arrived, the suspect opened fire, fatally wounding Officer Redhouse.

The suspect was shot and killed by the deputies at the scene. The man had been scheduled to turn himself in to the U.S. Marshals Service earlier in the day as a result of a conviction of a sexual crime against a minor.

Officer Redhouse was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who had served with the Navajo Division of Public Safety for seven years and was assigned to the Crownpoint District. He was survived by his wife and two small children.
