Sergeant Severo Firpi-Solis was shot and kill while performing security duties at Carioca Government Housing in Guayama, Puerto Rico. As tropical storm Hortense struck the island, the power went out and immediately shots were fired inside the housing projects. When Sergeant Firpi left the small temporary station located at the entrance on the housing project to investigate, the assailant shot him in the back of the head.

Sergeant Firpi-Solis' son followed in his father footsteps and joined the Puerto Rico Police Department and he is currently serving at the Distrito Patillas, Puerto Rico.
