Deputy Sheriff Brett Dickey was shot and killed while serving a warrant.

Several officers, including Deputy Dickey's father-in-law, Chief Deputy of Gilmer County, were accompanying Deputy Dickey during the stand-off and they were responsible for apprehending the suspect.

Deputy Dickey had served with Gilmer County Sheriff's Office for four years. He was survived by his wife and 9-month-old son.

Brett my friend. I met Brett in kindergarten and have spent a lifetime loving him. No one has ever left and impression on me like Brett has. I love you old friend God I miss YOU. Brett is by far the best person I have are will sver know. Tha k you God for putting someone so positive into my life. Brett was not only my friend he was my hero and my saviour. You taught me life lessons and about God with few words and more actions.its 2015 as I writre this I still think of you everyday.I realize after renewing my drivers license for the third time and I was wearing the memorial shirt your mother gave me that you were still there for me and would foreveer be a part of my life.I can only honor you in actions words will never be enough for such a hero. You called me two days before your traggic death and told me you loved me my last word's too you were I love you brother. God I miss you so bad. You will forever be in my heart. Thank you Joe and Maryjoe for giving us your son.
