Private Yashur was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic in Kingston, Pennsylvania. He and other officers had been assigned to assist with flood relief. The driver was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
Private Yashur had been with the agency for three months and was survived by his mother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 72nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
