Patrolman Gary Williams was shot and killed when he responded to a suspicious vehicle call on NE Loop 410 at 3 am.

Patrolman Williams was dispatched to check on an abandoned vehicle parked behind a closed restaurant when a car pulled into the road. The subjects exited their car to speak with Patrolman Williams. A scuffle ensued, and they took his service weapon and shot him twice, in the lower abdomen and the neck.

Patrolman Williams was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds while undergoing surgery.

Because Patrolman Williams had retrieved one of the subject's driver's licenses and had entered the license plate into the computer, the brothers were apprehended. One brother was sentenced to 55 years, and the other was sentenced to 10 years for aggravated assault.

Patrolman Williams had served with the San Antonio Police Department for three years. He is survived by his wife, two sons, parents, and sister.
