Assistant Chief of Police Oscar Wilkes was shot and killed while sitting in his police car in the driveway of a home. The suspect claimed he thought that Chief Wilkes was the ex-husband of his girlfriend.

The suspect was convicted of second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to one year in the county jail on March 28th, 1952.

Assistant Chief Wilkes was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
