Marshal Baker was shot and killed when he and his partner stopped a man who was suspected of robbing a bar. When they attempted to detain the man a struggle ensued. The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot Marshal Baker and his partner. Marshal Baker succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was apprehended four days later in Kentucky and was executed for the crime in 1986.
