Trooper Bailey was shot and killed after making a traffic stop on I-55 near West Memphis, Arkansas. During the stop he attempted to place the driver under arrest but was met with resistance. The suspect shot Trooper Bailey in the chest, fatally wounding him. Another trooper was able to return fire and wound the suspect. The man was taken into custody and was sentenced to life.
