Officer Weed succumbed to an accidental gunshot wound sustained two weeks earlier. Officer Weed was shot when a pistol fell out of another officer's holster and discharged, striking him in the leg. A blood clot formed near the wound and moved to his heart.

Officer Week had served with the Battle Creek Police Department for 1 year and was survived by his mother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 86th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
