Officer Bafford was shot and killed by a suspect he had just arrested for shooting at a couple moments earlier. The suspect was shot and wounded and then taken into custody by an off duty officer who came across the shooting scene.

The 16 year-old suspect was found incompetent to stand trial and committed at a state mental institution.

Officer Bafford had served with the agency for 14 years. He was survived by his expectant wife and two sons.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
