George Warburton

Undersheriff George Warburton was shot and killed by two men, wanted for robbing a local rancher, as he attempted to arrest them near Elliston. Later that day, when cornered by a posse, one of the suspects was shot and killed.

The other suspect was captured, convicted of second degree murder, and sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison.

Undersheriff Warburton was a World War I veteran. He is survived by his wife.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 92nd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
