Deputy Walker and Reserve Deputy Joshua Rodriguez were shot and killed after being overpowered during a traffic stop on Bandera Road. They had stopped a vehicle for a license plate violation. Approximately ten minutes later a citizen notified dispatchers that two deputies had been shot. Two suspects were apprehended and convicted of capital murder.
Deputy Walker had been with the agency for five years and was survived by his 2-year-old son and father.

I am the niece of Deputy Sheriff Vincent Walker. First, thank you all for the wonderful words. Even though it's been many years and that I was only two at the time, an emptiness is still felt. My sisters and I never got the chance to really know him. We have had to rely on stories from others. A life was taken too early and so cruelly. Jerry's only sibling, my dad, just recently passed so at least they are reunited. We are currently, again, in the process of trying to keep his offender in prison. An injustice was done several years ago when the state released the other offender responsible for killing another brave and respected officer, my Uncle's partner, Rodriguez. I wish we could go back and correct that error but all we can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again. With all that said I just really wanted to say thank you all, God Bless you and all of law enforcement.
