Sergeant Louis Wagner was shot and killed by unknown assailants as he drove from the sheriff's office.

His body was found in front of a business near Covington, Louisiana. It is suspected the assailant hid in the rear of his pickup truck as it was parked at the sheriff's office, and that he was attacked as he drove home.

Although no one has been charged with his murder, one of the lead suspects was executed for an unrelated murder.
