Officer Velasquez-Colon was fatally shot while responding to a burglary call at a supermarket. He was investigating the robbery when he located the suspects, who then shot him.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 26th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for the solace of all who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.
