Officer Robert Ussery was struck and killed by a drunk driver while making a traffic stop.

Officer Ussery was off-duty and had his family in his private vehicle with him when he stopped a car occupied by teenagers to give them a warning. An oncoming car struck Officer Ussery who was standing beside the stopped vehicle. The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Officer Ussery was survived by his wife and three children.

My Mom was a Montgomery Police Officer and was pregnant with me at the time Officer Ussery was killed. I always remember my mom telling me what a good person "Bobby" was. I believe Officer Ussery was one of the reasons my little brother was named Robert when he was born in 1980.
