Patrolman Tracz was shot and killed after he and his partner stopped a vehicle for running a stoplight. Patrolman Tracz's partner was speaking with the driver when the occupants suddenly opened fire. Patrolman Tracz exited his patrol car and tackled one of the suspets. The man then shot Patrolman Tracz in the chest as they fell to the ground.
