Patrolman Edward Tierney was killed when his motorcycle skidded, throwing Patrolman Tierney off the motorcycle, causing him to strike his head on a fire hydrant on the 1400 block of West Liberty Avenue.

Patrolman Tierney had served with the agency for 10 years and had served in the United States Marine Corps.
