I was almost 16 years old when you passed away. My family lived a few houses down and we always looked forward to you "buzzing" the house in the helicopter. It always made us laugh, knowing it was your way of saying hi to us and Belinda and chuck and to irritate some of the others on the street who did not share "our" sense of humor. I have always thought of you as one of my Dad's best friends. It has been over 30 years and Dad still tells his "Chattahoochee Charlie" stories as if they happened yesterday. You touched my family's life and have remained a enduring part of it due to your friendship, loyalty, humor and love for your family ever since. Dad still talks to your Mom around the corner and still enjoys telling me your shared "war stories." As he still says to this day, Charlie's a legend! You were/are a big part of our life and I am so thankful for all you have meant to my family. You have remained the bigger than life guy that you were to an impressionable teen who actually listened to your warnings and advice. I might have touched the line but didn't cross it. I thank you for your service and remain forever grateful. I know you were right there to welcome my Mom to "the block" this past Sept. You always made her smile. I honor you every Police Memorial Day at JSO. Dad may have worn a suit w/ his badge but you wore the UNIFORM and YOU were always the "the real police" to me.
