Sheriff Taylor succumbed to injuries sustained three weeks earlier when he was struck by a car while directing traffic around a stalled truck. He was struck by a vehicle driving in the opposite direction. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries three weeks later.
Sheriff Taylor had been sheriff for seven years and was running for this third term at the time of the accident. He was survived by his wife, two sons, daughter, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and five siblings.
