Officer Stocker was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a robbery suspect who had just robbed a department store of nearly $30,000. During the manhunt, Officer Stocker and two detectives located the suspect on Hamilton Avenue, NW. The suspect ran into a house and took an elderly couple hostage. As the officers approached the home, the suspect who was hiding under the porch, opened fire, striking Officer Stocker in the chest. The suspect later committed suicide in the home by cutting his own throat.
Officer Stocker had been with the Metropolitan Police Department for eight months and is survived by his wife and child.
