Officer Norman Stinger succumbed to injuries sustained when he was struck by a truck on Ridge Avenue near Broad Street. He was investigating a burglar alarm at a heating and roofing plant that later turned out to have been caused by a short circuit.

Officer Stinger was 41-year veteran of the force.
