Sergeant Stiner was shot and killed after being abducted by a prisoner he was transporting from court. During the court session, the prisoner somehow was passed a handgun which he hid until his return trip to jail. During the drive he made Sergeant Stiner driver to a remote part portion of desert where he shot and killed him. The suspect later died of exposure after escaping.
