Officer Steinkuhler succumbed to injuries sustained two nights earlier while directing traffic at Lockport Street and Locust Street. He was taken to Lockport City Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer Steinkuhler had served with the United States Army during World War II and had served with the Lockport Police Department for eight years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 58th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
