Ken and I reported to the Barstow CHP Area on the same day in 1970. He was senior, with some field time and I right out of the CHP Academy. It wasn't long before I realized that Ken was a kind and true gentleman. He and Shirley were friends. When the helicopter was proposed for the desert we both applied for flight officer positions and we were both accepted. When the helicopter crashed two years later the loss of both Ken Archer and George Robert (Bob) Carey changed my life forever. I think of and pray for them often. And for Shirley and the Archer family.
