Officer Delma Tooman was shot and killed as he was investigating a silent alarm at a restaurant. He was shot above his vest and in the left temple. Another officer on the scene shot the suspect.

The suspect survived the shooting and was jailed prior to the preliminary hearing. In an attempt to escape, the suspect planned a fake suicide but ended up killing himself and was found dead in his cell.

Officer Tooman is survived by his parents.

20 years ago this evening you were murdered. I drive by that place many times a night while on patrol and think of you often. I know I was not an officer when you died, but I still hear people speak of you. Rest in peace brother and keep an eye out on the rest of us still on patol!
