Lieutenant Ronald Smith was shot and killed while conducting a stakeout at a convience store. As the suspect entered the store, he pointed a gun the cashier to rob him. Lieutenant Smith approached, and engaged the suspect and the suspect shot him.

Lieutenant Smith was survived by his wife and two daughters.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
