James Anthony Smith

Officer Smith was killed in a motorcycle accident after another vehicle struck the rear of his patrol motorcycle near Speedway Boulevard and Plumer Avenue. The impact caused his motorcycle to veer into oncoming traffic where he was struck head-on by another car.

Officer Smith was survived by his wife, son and daughter.

Hey there Jim, thinking of you often (got your challenge coin in my left pocket every day). Hope you are taking care of the streets in heaven. Chester J. Rick and I are now managing the F.O.P. hall and we are converting the pool room to a Veterans room. We will have pictures of every Tucson Police Department and Pima County Sheriffs Department officers and deputies who were in the military at some time on the wall and since you served in the United States Air Force we will have your picture there too. Oh by the way you can be real proud of your son he became a hell of a man, but you already know that. Well take care we will talk to you again. Love you brother.
