Officer Sieger was shot and killed while attempting to assist a detective making an arrest. During the struggle the detective suffered a fractured skull. Officer Sieger continued to struggle with the suspect but lost control of his weapon after three females came to the suspect's aid. The suspect gained control of the weapon and shot Officer Sieger to death.

Officer Sieger had served with the Detroit Police Department for 9 years and was survived by his wife and son.
