Sheriff Sensenbach and Deputy Harry Siegfried were shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man for failing a $2 fine for not sending his children to school.

The suspect opened fire on the two officers inside his home, shooting Deputy Siegfried 18 times and Sheriff Sensenbach 38 times.

The suspect was shot and killed by a posse as he attempted to flee into the woods after the posse set fire to his farmhouse.
