I joined OPD April 8, 1975 just 6 years and a few days before Scottys tragic death. During those few years we became great friends through advising Explorers together, working the Departments Crime Prevention Programs, riding our trail bikes through the woods of what would become Cape Coral, working shifts together, and a northern winter vacation hunting trip which ended up in a visit with his parents in Illinois. I think of Scotty often and miss him much. I was awakened by a phone call from the station that sad morning, went in, made a hasty press release then headed out to
make notifications to those Scotty loved. I returned to the station to begin the process of planning a police funeral. Scotty had helped me with Officer Dean Metcalfs funeral just 5 years earlier. Some things you never forget. He often told me "I appreciate ya Stephan" as we parted. Scotty, I appreciate ya.
