John C. Sauer, Sr.

Marshal Sauer was killed when his patrol car was struck by a Chicago, Burlington and Quincy freight train at an unguarded crossing. The vehicle was thrown over 100-feet upon impact and Marshal Sauer was ejected from the car.

Marshal Sauer had served with the Shelbina Police Department for 9 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.

Marshall Sauer was my Grandfather. I was very young when he passed. I do have vague recollections of him as he stopped by every morning to check on me.
