When Officer Sanders arrived he and other officers engaged the suspect in a two-hour gun battle.
As Officer Sanders and other officers attempted to enter the suspect’s house, Officer Sanders was shot and killed with a rifle. The suspect then shot and killed himself. Deputy Sheriff Hefner died one month later from his wound.
